Rosie Settles In

Rosie O'Donnell is starting to call Chicago home. Yesterday her boss Oprah Winfrey took time out from handling her struggling vanity cable network to add The Rosie Show - which is already taping - to the marquee at Harpo Studios. As you can see from the photo, Oprah still had to remind people that her show came before Rosie's in the West Loop.

While O'Donnell is busy with tapings, it looks like she won't be commuting constantly. O'Donnell is set to buy a 6.000 square-foot home in Lakeview owned by an OWN staffer. Shit, there goes our dream of having her move into the vacant apartment downstairs and keeping us awake until the ass crack of dawn belting out show tunes.

A source close to the deal told the Tribune O'Donnell and the seller agreed on a $2.5 million purchase price that includes the furniture in the home. (Wow. Rosie's low maintenance about her furniture.) It looks as though Rosie has taken a shine to Chicago and backtracked on her comments in spring she would commute between here and New York. She even put her newfound love affair into blog poetry.

i have fallen in love with this city and it came as a surprise shocking - really i knew nothing of chicago

its beauty is startling
the wide clean streets
smiling hellos
the buckingham fountain took my breath away

Someone should tell Rosie about Mount Bridgeport.

I find it suspect that Rosie suddenly found all this love for Chicago.  She probably realized the show is going to take up a lot more time than she originally thought and commuting to and from New York is not feasible.  Instead of spending money on hotels, etc., she decided to buy a house. By couching this move as a love for the city, she may also gain some hometown loyalty, which she will need to make her show a success.
