Chicagoist Spins Old Soul at Maria's Thursday

2011_9_17_lavette_mariass.jpg Well this is a fine mess we've gotten ourselves into.

We have been wanting to do something different to get some IRL face-time with our readers. So a few weeks back we asked Ed Marszewski of Maria's Packaged Goods and Community Bar about letting Kevin Robinson and I spin some tunes.

Maria's had been a neighborhood dive bar for a long time. But Marszewski and his brother updated the space and the beer list. The new Maria's retains an accessible feel for both longtime residents and the artist and hipster communities.

Our DJ night is fast approaching. It'll be this Thursday, Sept. 22, at 9 p.m. We thought this would give us a good opportunity to break out those old soul records we both love. We'll be spinning a lot of Numero Group, Twinight, Southern Soul, dusties, Chicago and black gospel, rare funk and anything else that may fancy us. Kev's been threatening to spin Anita Baker, which means I may have to counter that with some Keith Sweat.

Come on out. It'll be a good night.

  • I'm excited about this night! But headed to MdCL & Sy Smith the same night! Will there be another?
