Rainbow PUSH Coalition Employee Says He Was Fired for Being Gay

2011_09_17_rainbow_push.png A former employee is suing the Rainbow PUSH Coalition and Jesse Jackson for discrimination because he says the organization fired him because he is gay. Tommy Bennett filed a complaint earlier this year, saying his coworkers mocked and harassed him. He has since been laid off. The Tribune writes:

In the lawsuit, Bennett alleges that one of his co-workers led a prayer during a volunteer meeting and stated “bind these homosexual spirits that are in the office” and “get these homosexuals out of here and do it in Jesus’ name.”
The organization denies the claim. Bennett is seeking $98,300 in lost income and another $350,000 in damages.
