Charges have been filed against a member of the Maniac Latin Disciples in the savage beating of 14-year-old Brian DeLeon in Logan Square last week.

19-year-old Esteban Miranda was charged with attempted murder and armed robbery; Miranda allegedly stole DeLeon's cell phone after the beating. A source close to the investigation told the Tribune Miranda was implicated in the crime by members of his own gang, who tried to get him to stop beating DeLeon.

Miranda and two other Maniac Latin Disciples members were supposedly cruising around looking to beat up a member of the Spanish Cobras and found DeLeon in the wrong place at the wrong time. Miranda also allegedly left a voicemail for DeLeon's girlfriend Dayana Vazquez, who tried to call DeLeon when she didn't hear from him, that said "YLo Cobra Killa' Bitch."

DeLeon remains in a coma from the beating.

Logan Square, Humbolt Park regardless. Probably should also read "Illegal Manic Latin Disciples"

Remember when McCarthy said he wanted the MLDs shut down? Remember when the police arrested something like 2/3 of the gang's membership over the course of the summer? Now this:

"A source close to the investigation told the Tribune Miranda was implicated in the crime by members of his own gang, who tried to get him to stop beating DeLeon."

So, now the MLDs can start trying to find the snitch(es) and killing each other. Very Machiavellian. I hope they crush these pieces of shit.

thought it's the least important detail of this, only a realtor would consider that area logan square.

This will become super relevant when the train tracks are turned into a park. Will it be Logan Square's new park, or Humboldt's? My guess is it will depend on whether the house being sold is in L.S. or H.P. However, I think you are correct in saying that it is a side issue in this case.

  • Most people consider Bloomingdale to be the border of Humboldt Park and Logan Square. Thus, while this was barely in Logan Square, the cited location is accurate. Though, I wouldn't quibble with anyone who referred to that block as Humboldt Park, either.

  • yeah, that's humboldt park. regardless....

    what up centerfuse bud?
