Yanesh Desai, the Woodridge man accused of beating his father to death with a weed trimmer, was back in DuPage County court yesterday shackled to a restraining chair to face new charges of aggravated battery.

Desai, who has a history of mental health problems and was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, reportedly refused to leave his feces-smeared jail cell so it could be cleaned last Sunday night. He then allegedly punched, scratched and bit the finger of a sheriff's sergeant so hard it broke.

The results of the court-ordered psych eval haven't been released. But either Desai is crazy like a fox, DuPage County authorities will have to make a serious leap in logic to declare him fit to stand trial or he needs immediate help.

When police responded to the August 911 call that led to Desai's arrest, they found him holding the weed trimmer he allegedly used to beat his father Sanjiv to death and mumbling about Godzilla, X and Y chromosomes, the Turks and cursing his father. The psych evaluation was ordered after Desai did more of the same in his bond hearing.

If found to fit to stand trial, the aggravated battery charge against Desai carries a five-year jail term.
