Woman Gives Birth After Running Chicago Marathon

2011_10_10_baby-running_shoe.jpg A Westchester woman may have set a new bar for overachievement (or monomania) by giving birth to a child after completing yesterday's Bank of America Chicago Marathon.

Amber Miller was 39 weeks pregnant, received clearance from her doctor to run and no objections from race officials. She alternated running and walking, with her husband at her side, when contractions started just before she crossed the finish line. Miller then grabbed a bite to eat and went to Central DuPage Hospital and brought seven pound, 13-ounce June Audra Miller into the world at 10:29 p.m.

Miller, a regular marathon competitor, said of her decision, “I know what I can handle. This is something I’ve been doing for a long time.” It was her second marathon she ran while pregnant and she said she received "very interesting" comments and crowd reactions as she ran the route.

No shit. Just a guess a fair amount of those reactions and comments were of the "WTF?" variety. Anyway, congratulations to the Amber and her husband. Here's a nice selection of running shoes for infants and toddlers, since we expect the baby to follow her mother's example and be running short distance races within four months.

Thank goodness nothing happened to her baby. Running at the last minute before giving birth could be dangerous. But since her doctors allowed it, everything did go well. She has given birth to a healthy child. At the same day, she was able to achieve two goals. Win the race and have a baby. =)

Between this woman and the one who went into labor but still completed the bar exam, Chicago women are proving their toughness...

  • But did she pass the bar exam? If she didn't pass, then she's just another woman taking a test while giving birth.

  • Mimihaha

    Yes, she passed.

  • CityRunner

    Yes, she passed.

  • The test or the baby?

I made the same comment when that story broke... something to the effect that anybody can fill in dots, but if she still did well enough to pass then it's a real accomplishment.  I haven't seen any follow-up regarding whether she was admitted to the bar.
