Do This: Watch The Last Pullman Car in Pullman

By Samantha Abernethy in Arts & Entertainment on Oct 17, 2011 10:30PM

Kartemquin Films' 1983 documentary The Last Pullman Car will be shown at the historic Clock Tower building in the Pullman neighborhood on Saturday, Oct. 22. The decades-old documentary film sounds like it could've been filmed yesterday, documenting the struggle between labor and corporations.

In 1981, Kartemquin Films created this documentary about the efforts of the United Steelworkers Local 1834 to try to keep the Pullman-Standard Company from shutting down its operations in Pullman. The local union was ignored by even their own the national union, and the plant was shuttered.

This free event is presented by South Side Projections, Pullman State Historic Site and the Bronzeville/Black Chicagoan Historical Society. It's a unique opportunity to watch a film about a historic site while seated in said historic site. Also, read the Chicago Tribune's interview with the filmmaker last month.

Saturday, Oct. 22, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Pullman State Historic Site, Clock Tower Building, 11057-59 S. Cottage Grove Ave., Chicago, near Pullman Metra stop, free admission, free parking, southsideprojections.org
