Before we know it the holiday season will be upon us. In fact, it may already be here.

The city announced its three finalists for this year's Christmas tree contest and they all look worthy of being showcased in Daley Plaza. The families of each of the finalists have crafted compelling backstories for why their tree should be the official Chicago Christmas tree, and each tree would look good decorated and propped up downtown.

Voting on the finalists is now open and online, go here to cast your vote. Voting is open until Oct. 25.

  • Sadly, there's no option for "don't spend City money on this violation of the IL and US Constitutions."

    Grow some balls and sue.

  • I don't get this particular tradition at all. "Hey, look," some suburban family says. "We have this giant, beautiful tree with great sentimental value that inspires all sorts of wonderful memories of good people and happy times, so why don't you guys come out here and cut it down for us."

It's a recent tradition, Blue, only started a few years back. Before the city constructed the Christmas tree from dozens of smaller trees, a la Rockerfeller Center and the White House. But they discontinued that as a cost-cutting measure.

  • Oh, I know. They were still doing the stack o' trees when I moved here. I liked that a lot better. (Weren't those artificial trees? I was thinking they were fake.)

  • ChicagoD

They were real. They were not fake.
