Morning Box Score: Hurricanes Storm Past Blackhawks

The Blackhawks (5-2-2) seemed to lack their "spark" last night against Carolina (4-3-3). Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward earned his first shutout of the season, stopping 30 shots on goal to help his team end a three-game losing streak. Ward also stonewalled a Jonathan Toews break-away attempt to keep his team on top. Corey Crawford tried to keep the Hawks in the game with 30 saves of his own and keeping the game 1-0 until the third period. But the Hurricanes trampled through the Hawks defense and found a way to score two more times causing the Hawks to lose for the first time in regulation since opening night and giving the Hawks their first shutout loss of the season. This is also the first and last time these two teams will meet in the regular season.
