Like a Kid in a Candy Store: Halloween Confections for Gourmet Palates

While it's tempting to raid your kid's candy bowl or buy an extra bag of Kit Kats when they go on sale this week, you know you can do better. These Chicago confectioners offer decadent treats perfect for more adult palates (though we totally understand if you sneak a Butterfinger in as well).

Amy’s Candy Bar

The Ravenswood store offers handmade and nostalgic treats. We're crazy about the passion fruit-mango caramels, and you can also find gummies, chocolate covered nuts (try the toffee white chocolate cashews), baked goods, and ice cream. We loved it when we visited in August.

Truffle Truffle

Truffle Truffle makes, yes, truffles, like the creative apple pie and chili chocolates. But they also make beer and pretzel treats with Rogue Chocolate Stout, which sounds way better than anything you'd get in your trick or treat bag. Find Truffle Truffle products at Southport Grocery & Café, Foodstuffs, W Grocer, Sky Grocer, and Urban Orchard.

Salted Caramel

You shouldn't miss the salted bourbon caramels made with honey and flaked sea salt. Salted Caramel also makes stout marshmallows, bacon bourbon caramel corn, and other treats. Find Salted Caramel at Green Grocer, City Provisions, Bleeding Heart Bakery, Provenance Food and Wine, and other spots.

Rich Chocolates and Candies

Rich offers a line of Chicago-inspired truffles, like the Pilsen (chili-infused dark chocolate ganache with caramelized almonds, rolled in red sugar) and Chinatown (milk and dark chocolate with orange and sesame, rolled in sesame seeds), along with barks, toffee, caramels, and more. Find Rich products at Chicago's Downtown Farmstand, Toni Patisserie, The Goddess and Grocer, and other stores.
