Motorola Mobility to Lay Off 800 Workers

In a regulatory filing, Libertyville-based Motorola Mobility announced plans to cut 800 jobs.
The layoffs come a couple of months after Google announced plans to buy Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion. Motorola Mobility is looking to shed debt and curb spending as it works to complete the acquisition by Google.
Under the terms of a May tax incentive plan between Motorola Mobility and the state, the company can retain those tax incentives so long as they maintain a workforce of 2,500 employees. Gov. Pat Quinn told the Tribune at the time Motorola Mobility promised to maintain a workforce of 3,000 workers; their workforce was listed as 3,290 workers. Unless some of those layoffs are coming from executive and office staff, could those incentives be in jeopardy?
