One word used by Insane Clown Posse Fans to describe their community is "family." (The world at large has a host of other descriptors for them that fly counter to that.)
The FBI has another word to describe the Juggalos: Gang. The Bureau's latest national gang threat assessment (which we've included in the post for your reading pleasure) lists Juggalos among "ethnic-based and non-traditional gangs" with the likes of Somali, Asian and Jamaican gangs. Are the Juggalos that organized?
The report states that Juggalos are engaging in activities more nefarious than smoking weed and spraying each other with Faygo in Utah, Arizona, California and Pennsylvania, and that subsets are "engaging in more gang-like criminal activity, such as felony assaults, thefts, robberies, and drug sales. Social networking websites are a popular conveyance for Juggalo sub-culture to communicate and expand."
So they don't know how magnets work, but they can use Facebook and Twitter. Got it.
The report also states Juggalos are moving into New Mexico "primarily because they
are attracted to the tribal and cultural traditions of the Native Americans residing nearby." The silver lining there: in addition to showing some intellectual curiosity by the Juggalos, they do have war paint in common with the native tribes.
How the FBI's report will affect the more sympathetic accounts on Juggalo culture as seen in Jim Kiernan's visit to this year's Gathering in Cave-in-Rock, IL or the American Juggalo documentary is yet to be determined.
