The Empty Bottle Starts A Book Club

2011_11_10_The_Rum_Diary.jpg The Empty Bottle always seems to have something new up its sleeve, and this time it’s pulling out a book club: Books, Booze & Brunch. The title pretty much speaks for itself - the Bottle wants you to come by and discuss some literature while enjoying a few drinks and foodstuff from its next-door cafĂ©, Bite.

The club’s first meeting will be this Sunday afternoon. The first book on the agenda is Hunter S. Thompson's The Rum Diary, his pre-gonzo novel set in San Juan, Puerto Rico and narrated by a young, alcoholic journalist.

It’s a fitting book selection for a venue that prides itself on its intimate, romantic ambiance and embraces heavy drinking in its name. Not to mention, The Rum Diary has been garnering all sorts of attention since the movie adaptation was released a couple weeks ago. For all of us lazy readers, that means we’d better get movie tickets now for when Saturday night rolls around and we haven’t even cracked the spine.

Anyhow, the book club is free and open to all. Just show up with your book - there will be drink specials for those who get their books from libraries or independent bookstores and bring proof of purchase. And bring an idea for December’s book selection, which you’ll be able to vote for on Sunday.
