Chicago-based contemplative experimentalists Pillars and Tongues will be playing a special, intimate performance at Experimental Sound Studio for its Outer Ear Fall Series. Earlier this year, Pillars and Tongues released their album The Pass and Crossings a spectral, spare orchestral rock record with lovely textures and beautiful melodies evocative of desolate autumns. (All of which make the cumulative miserablist vibe of The Pass and Crossings a little bit easier to swallow). Since then, the quartet has been on tour with like-minded acts A Hawk And A Handsaw and Dark Dark Dark, and this evening's performance is a homecoming for the band. Expect an intimate performance at ESS's Studio A. General Admission is $10, and the show starts at 8 p.m. ESS is located at 5925 North Ravenswood Ave.

Listen to Crossings' first single, "The Making Graceful," below, as well as an alternate cut of Crossings track "Oaky (Doting)."
