Chicago projects the image of a gorgeous and modern city. Few see the vast swaths of this town that do not fit that profile. Heck, most North Siders never hit the west side or anything south of the Museum of Science and Industry. Filmmaker Cyrus Dowlatshahi wants to change that -- and he needs your help.

Dowlatshahi, a freelance photographer and filmmaker who has worked with Discovery Planet, Al-Jazeera and PBS’ “Nova,” has a new Kickstarter project highlighting every day life on the South Side that is about halfway to its funding production goal. We would like to see the Hyde Park native get the cash to finish this project up, because his trailer looks fascinating.

That's amazing! I was born in Englewood and grew up on the South Side and would love to see this finished project. Not just as a really fascinating look at an under-recognized part of town that helped make me who I am, but as a stark reminder as to why I got the fuck out.

  • This looks awesome.
