CTA Debuts New Rail Cars

The Chicago Transit Authority debuted the first of 706 new rail cars earlier this month, the first new modernization of the agency's rail line since 1992.

The video below highlights some of the features of the new cas, including surveillance cameras, ADA compliance and hydraulics that allow for a smoother ride. The feature we appreciate most is the New York-style subway seating, which would allow for more space for passengers, in theory. How much do you want to bet people will mass up inside the doors, anyway? Look close in the video and you'll see they already are.

The absurdly narrow, 17.5" wide seats, will prove to be a disaster when on heavily used runs.
