Psalm One Kick Starts A New Album

Chicago rapper Psalm One has been busy mentoring youth across the country and putting out free mixtapes for a while now, which explains why she hasn’t had the time or resources to put out an official LP since 2006. Now, she’s set up a Kickstarter project and is looking to her fans for a little monetary support to finish her upcoming album.
So, how it works is Psalm One needs to raise $8000 in pledges by Dec. 31, or she doesn’t get a dime. The tally is almost up to $1100, which leaves a lot to be desired. But the rewards for donating are pretty decent: $20 gets you an unreleased, autographed mixtape by Psalm One, while $250 gets you two VIP tickets to Psalm One’s Chicago show, among other treats. You can pledge anything over one dollar, and if you pledge up to $5000, she’ll come to your home and make you dinner.
The local rapper has been working on her upcoming full-length for two years and hopes to release it in 2012. The Kickstarter donations will go toward mixing the album, producing a music video and upgrading the artist’s gear. Head over to the Kickstarter page to donate.
Psalm One is currently on tour in support of the mentorship program, ASCAP Songwriter Residency @ America SCORES, stopping at nine cities to spend some quality time with students and help them write and record their own songs. The tour comes to an end Dec. 15 right here in her hometown, on which date she’ll perform at Reckless Records. The exact details of the in-store set are still up in the air, so keep your eye on Reckless’s site for updates.
