Alpana Singh Leaves Lettuce Entertain You

2011_11_30Alpana.jpg Chicago wine lovers shed a few tears this morning as Lettuce Entertain You Wine and Sprits Director Alpana Singh announced her departure from the company. She told the world via Twitter that "After 12 incredible years, today is my last day at Lettuce Entertain You. Excited for new adventures ahead!"

Singh has been the director of Wine and Spirits since 2005, and her talent has shown through in the generally high quality of the alcoholic offerings at the many LEYE properties. While LEYE has never been the most innovative or risk-taking company in this area, their spirits offerings are solid and their wine selection (especially at the fine dining level) is particularly good. Singh started as a sommelier at Everest in 2001, which has been recognized by Wine Spectator and lauded by Saveur magazine for having "the best and largest Alsace wine list in America." Personally, we've always appreciated her work at the more reasonably-priced LEYE outlets, and can't count the number of times we've stopped in at Foodlife Market for a quick bottle of wine.

Singh will continue to appear on Check, Please on WTTW. Other projects are "on the horizon." According to her blog, she will remain in Chicago: "I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else again."
