Cops Follow Bloody Paw Prints To Discover Brutal Dog Abuse

A terrier mix is in stable condition after police found children trying to beat it with baseball bats and broomsticks. Police responded to a 911 call in East Garfield Park and upon approaching, the children fled. The dog ran to the doorstep of a nearby house, where the owner had decided she didn't want it anymore. The Tribune writes:

Officers found the dog’s owner, Lashon Parks, 42, hadn’t been giving the animal water or food and had left it outside in temperatures below 25-degrees for an unidentified amount of time, police said.

Parks told officers that she owned the dog for ten years but no longer wanted it and allowed a relative to let it loose outside to “get rid of it,’’ the report said.

The woman was charged with cruelty to animals, and the pup is receiving medical attention.

Why is it always charges of misdemeanor animal abuse?  If it had been one of those wretched kids, we'd be hearing about it forever!

In other words the dog was treated like on of the city's many homeless *humans*....

Can you please post updates on 1) the dog's condition, 2) what happens to the kids found beating him, and 3) the actual sentence (if any) the dog's former owner receives?  Also, is there a fund in place to help contribute to the dog's medical and wellness bills?  What about contributing to an animal welfare and educational program for those kids?  Please share available resources, you clearly have engaged and interested readers.  Thank you.

Every single one of these people need to be in jail. Now. I don't care if they're children.

Every day I ask what the fuck is wrong with people.  Drop the dog off at a shelter, at the very least.  I am beyond sick of "humanity" in name only.

Please think twice about "illustrating" your news stories with pix from flickr. It's misleading and detracts from the integrity of the story. The headline refers to bloody paw prints of an abused dog, but the picture was taken in 2009 and it's a tiger's paw. Why is it there? Ridiculous.
