Herbert Pulgar, Freshman, Lawrence Hall Youth Services
Congratulations to Herbert Pulgar of Lawrence Hall Youth Services. He's the winner of this year's city vehicle sticker contest.

City Clerk Susana Mendoza said in a statement announcing the winner:

“More than 18,000 people helped us choose the next city vehicle sticker design. The bold, bright colors and iconic images in Herbert’s design will look great on Chicago cars. This year’s theme asks that we all take a moment to remember the sacrifices our first responders make for us every day and celebrate their commitment to protecting our neighborhoods. We should all be proud to feature the 2012 - 2013 city stickers on our vehicles to honor Chicago’s Heroes.”

Pulgar's story is inspiring. He was saved by firefighters at the age of four from a candle fire ignited his clothes and left him with fourth-degree burns. His mother suggested the heart in the design and he added the hands after seeing them in previous entries.

With his win, Pulgar receives a $1,000 savings bond from the City Clerk's office.
