Playboy Magazine Is Officially Moving Its Headquarters To L.A.

After months of speculation, it's official: Time Out Chicago reports that Playboy Magazine is officially moving its headquarters from Chicago to Los Angeles in April 2012. Hugh Hefner started Playboy in Chicago in 1953, but its presence has been less prominent in recent years. Crain's writes:

The company wouldn't say explicitly whether it's moving its corporate headquarters to the West Coast city, where its CEO, Scott Flanders, has had an office since he started in mid-2009 and where other top executives have shifted over the past year, but a spokeswoman didn't dispute that possibility.

“No final decisions have been made yet regarding the future of other departments currently based in Chicago,” the company said in a statement.

In October 2010 Hefner himself said Playboy headquarters would "probably" leave Chicago, when he responded to rumors that the 15th and 16th floors of the Playboy Building were available for sublease. In January 2011 Hef took Playboy private because he thought the brand was undervalued. The development of the television series The Playboy Club tried to reclaim Playboy's 60s heyday, and it was rumored the old Playboy Club would pop up here for the first time in more than 20 years. But the TV show was canceled, and
