Northwestern Still Hasn't Won A Bowl Game Since 1949
Northwestern University Wildcats lost 33-22 to the Texas A&M Aggies in the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Houston yesterday. They put up a good fight in the fourth quarter, though. The Daily Northwestern writes:
After failing to generate momentum on offense or defense through the first three quarters, NU scored twice in the fourth quarter to pull within one score. However, with a systematic drive that ran four minutes and 52 seconds off the clock, the Aggies sucked the life out of the Cats' comeback bid and sealed NU's ninth straight bowl loss.
This was the sixth straight bowl game they've lost. The last one they won was against the California Golden Bears in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day 1949. ESPN wrote that a monkey was on the sidelines "wearing a No. 63 jersey, the number of years since the Wildcats won a bowl." The Aggies broke their losing streak, having dropped eight bowl games, but that streak only goes back to 2001.
