WBBM-AM radio broke news this morning that Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro was accused of sexually assaulting a woman after a night of clubbing.

The alleged incident occurred Sept. 29, when Castro met the accuser at the River North nightclub Crescendo. Sources told WBBM's Mike Krauser that the accuser and a friend then headed to Castro's apartment, where she blacked out. When she awoke, she claims to have discovered Castro assaulting her. The victim left Castro's apartment, got a ride home from her friend, but didn't go to a hospital for another 12 hours.

Castro was believed to be flying home to the Dominican Republic by then. WBBM's sources say he hasn't been interviewed yet. Castro's attorney's have released a statement saying Castro is innocent:

"We are aware of certain allegations that have been made against our client, Starlin Castro. We have thoroughly investigated this matter, and we are confident that these allegations are baseless. Given the sensitive nature of this matter, we cannot comment any further."

The Cubs have also released a statement that read they cannot comment on the allegations, but hope that Castro is innocent.

The fact that she says she blacked out kills this, right? doesn't that mean she had no idea how the assault began? would there be any way to tell if she was engaging him, then came out of her black out mid bang sesh and had no idea what was going on? Hopefully for castro he's one of the dennis reynolds of the world and video tapes every sexual encounter. haha.

My sense is that he'll be more like Frank Reynolds and buy his way out of it. Which is something that good teammates could have helped him avoid. Instead, Soriano was his mentor. What a disaster of an organization.

Can't convict him yet, just based on these media reports. This could be a case of morning after remorse.

Send his talents to South Beach with Big Z....

I have no idea whether he is guilty or innocent. But, the last thing the Cubs need is one more thing to distract him in the infield.

Son of a bitch. God damn it.

See my earlier note about not putting any professional athlete's name on your back.
