Left Hand Brewing To Debut Nitrogen-Charged Milk Stout Bottles In Chicago Next Week

2012_1_13_lefthand.jpg I had this to say about Left Hand Milk Stout in 2007, which was sampled from a bottle.

"Because of its gravity and sweetness, the head on this beer is pretty thin, so it you're looking to create foam art (we're partial to making a star of David or a middle finger in our stout foam) you'll be SOL here. Same goes for trying to use Milk Stout as part of a black-and-tan or half-and-half."

One of the most talked about launches at last year's Great American Beer Festival was Left Hand Brewing's launch of Milk Stout in nitrogen-charged bottles. It's the first nitrogen-bottled beer produced by an American craft brewery. Adding nitrogen to the carbonation process gives a stout a creamier, richer mouth feel, and Left Hand Milk Stout on draft is the brewery's most popular seller.

Since the launch of the nitrogen-bottled Milk Stout at GABF, the Colorado brewery has been slowly rolling it out in markets across the country. Next week, it's Chicago's turn and Left Hand has a litany of events throughout the area to celebrate the launch.

Binny's will have tastings Jan. 18-20 at the following locations:

Jan. 18, 5-7 p.m.

3000 N. Clark St.
213 W. Grand Ave.

Jan. 20, 6-8 p.m.

3000 N. Clark St.
213 W. Grand Ave.
1720 N. Marcey St.
1132 S. Jefferson St.

Left Hand will also have launch parties for Milk Stout at Jake Melnick's Jan. 19 at 8 p.m. and The Long Room (1612 W. Irving Park Rd.) 8-10 p.m. Jan. 20.

Below is a video on how to properly pour Milk Stout from the bottle.
