Driving 88—probably not a reference to the speed of a time-traveling Delorean, but we won't hold that against anyone—was released today by local rap star Rockie Fresh. Download it below. 88 is the follow-up to Fresh's well-received The Otherside mixtape, which was released December 2010. In contrast to Otherside, which featured moody, sonically dense soul-rap akin to modern stars like Drake, 88 is a more beat-heavy, more hip-hop-oriented affair, at least judging from the representative likes of "How We Do" and the title track. If you're skeptical, watch the video for "Do" below, then download the mixtape.

Rockie will celebrate 88 with a mixtape release show at Reggie's this Thursday, January 26. Tickets are $10, and can be bought here. Side note: Why do rappers who self-release material put the "parental advisory" sticker on their cover art? It's not like they have to submit their stuff to the RIAA, the agency responsible for putting such labels on music to begin with.
