Chicago Police Blogger Offers Recommendations For Police To Cover Badge Numbers For NATO/G8 Summits

2012_1_26_badge.jpg The anonymous police blogger Second City Cop often has his finger on the pulse of the Police Department rank-and-file, although we've often said they'll never be satisfied with who is mayor or Police Superintendent. Often, after reading some of the comments at SCC, we feel a need to take a shower to rid ourselves of the shame.

SCC posted what would generously be termed as a throwaway post Friday where he suggests the police rank-and-file use tape and other means to cover their badge numbers during the May NATO and G8 summits, with a picture of a roll of electrical tape to drive the point home.

This led to replies from anonymous readers that duct tape would be a better option, as electrical tape "stretches and loosens;" using that tape to secure Mayor Rahm Emanuel and former Mayor Richard M. Daley to the Picasso statue at Daley Plaza; and using the black bands reserved for police funerals to obscure badge numbers. One SCC reader said, "So what if it happens to fall across your star number?"

Another suggestion, which we found to be a bit funny, was to all Chicago Police to wear "McCarthy" name tags after Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy. Regardless, stay classy, Chicago Police.
