Ameena Matthews Of The Interrupters Appeared On The Colbert Report

Ameena Matthews, Cease Fire violence interrupter and star of the critically acclaimed documentary The Interrupters appeared last night on The Colbert Report. Matthews held her own in her conversation with Colbert's self-important character. "You're an interrupter in a rude way," she said. "I'm a violence interrupter in saving lives." Well played.
If you haven't seen The Interrupters yet, it will air on PBS's Frontline on Tuesday, Feb. 14. Check local listings for times. Watch it and see why we're so shocked by the Oscar snub. Slate's Slate's Dana Stevens accurately called The Interrupters "the most necessary film of the year," and it became the highest grossing film in the history of the Gene Siskel Film Center. The Interrupters easily made our list of the best movies of 2011.
Read our interviews with Interrupters director Steve James—who also made the famously Oscar-snubbed Hoop Dreams—and journalist Alex Kotlowitz.
