Wrong Way Crash on I-80 Kills Four

2012_2_6_interstate80.png Four people are dead this morning following a crash on Interstate 80 near Hazel Crest where one of the cars was driving the wrong way on the road.

Illinois State Police were notified of the wrong way driver at 2:18 a.m. The lone survivor of the crash, who was in the car going the wrong way, said the driver decided to do a u-turn to get back to the northbound Tri State Tollway. A short time later the car, carrying four passengers, crashed head-on into a car going the correct direction on the westbound lanes of I-80. That driver and three passengers in the car going the wrong way, including the driver, were killed.

Alcohol is suspected as a factor in the crash. The four passengers in the wrong way car were reported to have left a strip club in Harvey before the crash. As of this time, all westbound lanes of I-80 are closed to traffic.
