Edible Nerdiness: The Manbque Meat Stadium

We love anything sculpted out of food, and food stadiums tend to be particularly epic. Manbque, a Chicago-based "elite grilling organization," created this meat model of Soldier Field last week. It took them four days to make, starting on Monday and ending on Thursday - we're definitely impressed with their stamina!

There is a great set of pictures on their site, but here are some quick facts: the stadium is made of more than 30 pounds of meat, the exterior walls are made of pork loins, columns are made from hot dogs, and the seats are made from home-made sausages. The end zones will be a real treat for touchdown-scorers, as they are entirely made of bacon. We can envision Hormel's Super Bowl Commercial for next year already.

Check out the building process - and Manbque in general. They are some seriously intense grillers. The organization includes more than 400 members, they host events and present recipes on their website.

A real opportunity seems to have been missed when lettuce, rather than guacamole was used for the field. I mean, seriously, would you rather have lettuce (!?!) or guacamole on your north end zone walls?

Gauc was tossed around, but ultimately it really didn't go with anything. Meat Stadium is above all delicious.

We went with a simple romaine mixed with oil and vinegar. Went really well with everything we put it on while we were eating it.

    mmmm.... meaty vinegar.....

I can respect a thoughtful choice. OTH, I always love guac on a burger.
