Archie Powell & The Exports Announce New Album, Single

2012_02_09_ArchiePowell.jpg We’re quite fond of Archie Powell & The Exports. It’s not just the local quartet’s brand of buoyant, twangy pop-rock, but also their youthful and light-hearted demeanor, that won us over. So we’re pretty stoked to hear that the band is preparing for the release of its second full-length album, Great Ideas In Action.

Great Ideas In Action is the follow up to the October 2010 debut full-length, Skip Work, and it’s due for release May 1. That’s still a long three months away, so the band is offering up the album’s opening track, “Metronome,” to hold you over. You can download it for free through Bandcamp or pay with a tweet and help the band spread the word.

In other AP&E news, the band will head off to tour the states next month before heading to Austin for SXSW. You can catch them live before then when they perform March 3 at Township (formerly known as Pancho’s). Also playing will be Rodeo Ruby Love and The Noise FM.

Oh, and remember back in fall when the band launched a Kickstarter project called “Burrito Lunch”? The goal was to raise $35, write and record a song about eating Mexican food, and film a video for it. They ended up raising $325 and spent all of it at a Mexican restaurant. Check out the results and watch Archie Powell chug a dangerous amount of margarita:

Archie Powell & The Exports perform Saturday, March 3 at Pancho’s, 2200 N California, 7 p.m., FREE, 21+
