Lisa Chan, the woman who starred in a campaign ad for former Michigan congressman and GOP Senate candidate Pete Hoekstra that drew harsh criticism from both major political parties for having racial undertones (and that's an understatement), has apologized for appearing in the ad.

Chan issued a formal apology on her Facebook page.

Hoekstra has maintained his claims that the ad, which features Chan speaking in pidgin English, is not racist at all and about the growing Chinese education menace.

Well, something got lost in translation.

  • This is dumb. Chan is a struggling actress with bills to pay. Actresses have done things worse than this. And while we all might have preferred she go the Skinemax route, she did what she thought she had to do. We can't prentend we'd do differently in her shoes. Give her a break.

Thank God someone finally broke the porn seal on this conversation. Finally!

Of course, THAT movie would probably start the same way . . .

  • When it comes to porn, I'm all about breaking seals.

  • Nicholas

There is porn with Seals? That is some sick stuff, there.

  • Especially when they start balancing balls on their nose.

  • Navin_Johnson

and then out of nowhere he starts singing "Kiss from a Rose".

  • ChicagoD

Well, at least I'll have three companions in hell.

  • Navin_Johnson

As Hoekstra would say:  We burn long time.

I don't get it. That punchline made no sense at all. Punchlines should be something funny, like "aren't you glad I didn't say banana?"

  • Navin_Johnson

    Ancient Chinese secret, huh?

  • ChicagoD

WTF are you talking about laundry for?

  • slickpoetry

Um, didn't she see the script before, or during the filming of the commercial? She can apologize for sure, but she took the check and I'm sure she cashed it. Next time maybe she'll think a little more before accepting a job.

  • Nicholas

We can all say that, but walk a mile in her shoes. She's not the first actress to take a shitty role to make a living.

  • Navin_Johnson

Maybe she can pull a Harry & Louise

  • Nicholas

A sincere apology from a woman who deserves forgiveness. The douchebag in this story is, and always was, Hoekstra.

  • ChicagoD

Well, I hope we've all learned a valuable lesson. If you're going to make a racially insensitive ad, make it abroad with foreign actors who won't be so easy to track down.
