Residents of Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky are now picking up the pieces from Friday's severe tornadoes that killed at least 38 people.

The worst damage occurred in southern Indiana and along the Appalachian foothills of Kentucky. Davis Ison of West Liberty, Ken. said the tornado that hit the town was "like a whiteout." Some twisters in the hardest hit areas reached speeds of up to 200 MPH. Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels toured the damage in Henryville, Ind., Ohio Gov. John Kasich declared an emergency and President Barack Obama offered federal assistance.

The death tolls are currently 19 in Kentucky, 14 in Indiana, three in Ohio, and one each in Alabama and Georgia.

The most amazing story to emerge from this is that of Angel Babcock, a 14-month-old girl who was found alive in an cornfield in Salem, Ind., ten miles away from her home. Rescuers discovered Angel surrounded by the dead bodies of her family. Jack Bough, the girl's grandfather, told the Courier-Journal she's in extremely critical condition.

“She’s had a lot of injuries to her head. The doctors told us that the next 24-48 hours are very critical. I’m just asking everyone to pray for my granddaughter and for my family.”
