In case you didn't know, Ted Nugent really, really, really likes guns. The Motor City Madman is known for his conservative views on... well, everything. So why did he decide to endorse the relatively moderate Mitt Romney in the Republican nomination competition?

Romney sought out Nugent's endorsement, but The Nuge hasn't quite gotten over the loss of his favorite candidate, Rick Perry. So Nugent asked Romney to pledge to protect guns.

The Texas Tribune writes:

He talked to Romney by phone while he was at a sporting goods store in Michigan "celebrating the orgy of guns and ammos and bows and arrows and camouflage clothing and hunting and fishing and outdoor family supplies."

Before endorsing him, Nugent demanded that Romney pledge there would be no new gun laws or restrictions on Second Amendment rights in his administration. Romney obliged. Nugent also warned Romney about the "out of control" U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.

Nugent said "America is in a suicidal tailspin" but he decided Romney has the "best shot at bringing the U.S. Constitution, common sense, and the American way back to the White House."

Nugent tweeted his endorsement on March 2 (sic):

after a long heart&soul conversation with MittRomney today I concluded this goodman will properly represent we the people & I endorsed him

Like we wrote earlier today, the Illinois primary on March 20 just became a little more important in order for Romney to clinch the Republican nomination. Rick Santorum is only made it on the ballot in 14 of 18 congressional districts.

In February Nugent was the keynote speaker for the 108th Sangamon County Republican Lincoln Day Dinner, where he discussed Illinois' gun policies, particularly the state ban on concealed carry. He called Illinois “the epicenter of what’s wrong with America - you gave us the damn president. You gave us Al Capone, Frank Nitti, Blagojevich, John Wayne Gacy, Richard Speck, Richard Daley. You’ve got Ryan (apparently former Gov. George Ryan). Are you kiddin’ me?”

So Illinois, when you get your Second amendment, that will be the indicator that you mean business. That will be the indicator that you're real Republicans carrying on 108th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln celebration.

This video has a part of what he said about guns at the dinner. The full speech is available on YouTube.

If you really want to know just how much Ted Nugent loves guns, watch this video from 2007 when he went on this hate-spewing rant at a concert, gun in hand.

I was in Chicago last week I said, "Hey Obama, you might want to suck on one of these, you punk." Obama, he's a piece of shit and I told him to suck on one of my machine guns. Let's hear it for them. I was in New York and I said, "Hey Hillary, you might want to ride one of these into the sunset you worthless bitch." Since I'm in California, I'm gonna find Barbara Boxer, she might wanna suck on my machine guns. Hey, Dianne Feinstein, ride one of these you worthless whore.

And then he screamed "Freedom" like Mel Gibson in Braveheart. No joke. Watch for yourself.
