Rick Bayless Talks Taco Bell And Dr. Seuss On Wait, Wait...

By Samantha Abernethy in Food on Mar 11, 2012 6:45PM

Cheflebrity Rick Bayless appeared on NPR's Wait, Wait... Don't Tell Me! this week, where he discussed his upcoming theater project, Mexican cuisine and the works of Dr. Seuss. Host Peter Sagal asked Bayless what he thought of the new Doritos Locos Tacos.

SAGAL: That is a Taco Supreme, ground beef, all the fixings, but the shell is made from Nacho Cheese Doritos substance. Beat that. BAYLESS: This is like another... SAGAL: Genius chef. BAYLESS: ...another language. I've never even heard of these things. What is that?

Oh, come on Bayless. Don't act like you haven't eaten doritos. You're not that delicate. Bayless also talked about his new theater project Cascabel at Looking Glass Theater, which Bayless wrote and will star in starting March 21.

I'm creating one with a couple of other people at Looking Glass Theater Company. And we are - well, I think the best way to describe this is we're going to do something that's like "Midsummer Night's Dream" with a meal. So it's all about food being magic and you get to ingest it and see what happens to you.

Sagal responded, "I usually have that experience at less quality Mexican restaurants." Bayless barely passes a quiz on Dr. Seuss, (creator of that IHOP spokesman) and give the podcast a listen to find out how Bayless politely escapes a mediocre meal — "throw money on the table and get out."
