Wilco Heading To A Ballpark

It seems as though local Wilco fans can't get enough of Team Tweedy, with the band's shows selling out almost as fast as tickets go on sale. A Sunday announcement by the band adds a little bit of America's Pastime to their next area gig.

Wilco will play a July 8 concert at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Geneva, home to the Kane County Cougars. (We don't know if the knowledge that naming rights for a Class A baseball club's stadium are available to the right sponsor gets you down like it does us. It's the way of the world, we guess.)

Anyhoo, Wilco is bringing some friends with them. Andrew Bird is on the bill, which should make fans of the Whistling Dandy who couldn't get tickets to his Auditorium Theatre gig next month excited to for a second chance to see him. Also on the bill is local soul act The Congregation. This band wowed us at Gapers Block's BBQ Bowl rib competition a couple months back.

Wilco is making this a family affair, as well. Children under age 4 will be admitted for free, and there will be a fireworks display after the show. All tickets are general admission seating, cost $50 and will go on sale 10 a.m. Saturday at etix.com, the Kane County Cougars ballpark ticket office and the Vic Theatre's box office.
