Talk about a game with a playoff atmosphere, last night's contest between the Bulls and Heat had it. Derrick Rose only scored two points on 1-of-13 shooting but Luol Deng, Carlos Boozer and the Bench Mob turned a six-point halftime deficit into a 10-point overtime win. Boozer scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, Deng added 16 points and the Bulls bench outscored Miami's 47-7, while the team shot 11-22 from three-point land. With Rose on the bench, CJ Watson hit a trey with 2.2 seconds in regulation to force overtime. the extra five minutes was all Bulls. Kyle Korver scored 17, Watson 16 and Taj Gibson 11 for Chicago, which now holds a four-game lead over the Heat in the Eastern Conference standings.
Jonathan Toews made a successful return to the Hawks lineup last night, notching a goal and an assist, but Phoenix's tough team defense and the goaltending of Mike Smith proved to be the difference, as we said it would in our preview of the series yesterday. Smith stopped 43 of 45 shots, including all seven shots he faced on power plays, to give the Coyotes a 1-0 lead in this opening round series.
