Afternoon Box Score: Cincinnati Extends Cubs Woes

The Cubs record now stands at 3-11 after the Reds tee off on Chris Volstad. Volstad gave up six runs (five earned) in five innings of work. Cincinnati staked their starting pitcher Homer Bailey to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, helped out by errors from Starlin Castro and Marlon Byrd. For Castro it was his fifth error of the young season.
Before the game the Cubs placed Kerry Wood on the disabled list with right shoulder fatigue. Making matters worse, Ryan Dempster may miss his start Sunday with a sore quadriceps muscle.
