One Great Dish: Westminster Hot Dog's Venison Bacon Sausage

2012_4_30_OGD.JPG Loop-based hot dog stand Westminster Hot Dog recently opened a second location at 1045 W. Madison St. They make a good Chicago-style hot dog, but we like to visit for the house made gourmet sausages like their pork and bacon sausage ground with diced jalapeno.

We stopped in the Madison Street shop Friday evening and ordered their special for the day: a venison bacon sausage with brandy peppercorn sauce and Abergele cheese. The two proteins were prominent throughout in this chunky sausage, with the sweetness of the deer complementing the smoky crunch of the bacon. The peppercorn sauce provided the requisite spice.

We called Westminster's loop location at 11 N. Wells and this sausage is still on special today. If you're looking for something quick to go, you can't do much better than this. If you're craving a Hot Doug's or Franks 'N Dawgs special, this also makes a nice substitute.
