D-Pete Acts Like D-Pete In Court Hearing

By Chuck Sudo in News on May 4, 2012 4:40PM

Drew Peterson joked with deputies guarding him and earned an admonition from both Judge Sarah Jones and a bailiff in his first appearance in a Will County Courtroom since 2010. Nice to see some people don't change.

Peterson earned the admonition from Jones after the bailiff made a standard warning not to communicate with anyone in custody. Peterson waved his arm and said, "That would be me."

The main purpose for the hearing, which had an overflow crowd, was to assign a judge to Peterson's upcoming trial. Will County Court Judge Stephen White retired while Peterson's appeal on whether hearsay evidence could be used against him worked its way up the court system. Jones assigned Will County Associate Judge Edward Burmila to his case. Burmila is a former Will County prosecutor.

Another hearing was scheduled for May 17.
