Afternoon Box Score: LaHair, Maholm Lift Cubs

By Chuck Sudo in News on May 9, 2012 9:20PM

Cubs 1, Atlanta 0

Once again the combination of solid starting pitching and a timely hit by Bryan LaHair lifted the Cubs to victory. Paul Maholm put Atlanta's hitters on lockdown with seven innings of three-hit, shutout pitching and LaHair hit an RBI single in the seventh inning to send the Wrigley Faithful home happy. For Maholm, it's his fourth straight win and the Cubs' starting rotation is beginning to show some serious signs that it's a force to be reckoned with. The Cubs bullpen made sure the lead held up this time, probably because Dale Sveum didn't put Kerry Wood or Carlos Marmol in the game.
