Chicago Man Arrested For Trying To Climb Mount Rushmore

A Chicago man was caught trying to climb Mount Rushmore yesterday. Fifty-three-year-old Patrick Marshall — this was not an accident of youth — was arrested while he "clambered on loose rock directly below the carvings."

A spokeswoman for the landmark says this kind of thing happens all of the time, and neither Marshall nor the sculpture were in danger. There was no indication that he was running from a group of spies like Cary Grant in North by Northwest, nor was he accompanied by actress Eva Marie Saint.

Marshall pleaded guilty to trespassing and failing to obey a lawful order. The judge ordered him to pay a $500 fine and $50 in court costs.
