Pencil This In: Urban Craft Lab At Haymarket Pub & Brewery

By Chuck Sudo in Arts & Entertainment on Jun 5, 2012 5:40PM

2012_6_5_PTI.jpg Former Chicago Reader editor Alison True and Sarah Steedman (Rick Bayless's former gardener and the founder of the organic garden at Kilbourn Park on the Northwest side) have been working for close to a year on a project called Urban Craft Lab, a communal crafting workshop company that is now starting to host pop-up events in Chicago-area bars and shops.

True and Steedman will be at Haymarket Pub & Brewery from 6-8 p.m. tomorrow, maybe longer if everyone is having fun. They'll be showing guests how to make lamps from beer bottles. All you have to do is bring a memento, buy a beer from the bar, drain it and you're on your way. True and Steedman will provide the fixtures, shades and other materials. (The session costs $25).

They'll also have a card project ($10 for three cards). They have blank cards and all kinds of stuff for collaging, including stamps, maps, old reference books, scissors, punches and glue. This would make a great gift for Father's Day.

We also recommend you get on the Urban Craft Lab mailing list to keep abreast of future projects, or visit the Urban Craft Lab Facebook page.
