Pencil This In: Allison Wade At The Salon Series

By Amy Cavanaugh in Arts & Entertainment on Jun 16, 2012 6:00PM

Art, food, and conversation intersect at The Salon Series, and the June 21 event brings together artist Allison Wade, food by X-Marx, and drinks by 5 Rabbit and Vinejoy. The salons occur a few times a year; this month's will be held at Lillstreet Art Center.

Run by J.C. Steinbrunner, The Salon Series is one of the most intellectually stimulating events we've attended in Chicago. Steinbrunner and Wade will chat about her work, dinner guests can chime in, and everyone eats a great dinner by X-Marx. The menu features roasted Slagel Farms pork loin with rhubarb and lavender, a selection of summer salads, and buttermilk strawberry "shortcake" with anise, hyssop, and Sicilian lemon curd. Tickets are $45 and wine and beer are included.

Wade has an MFA in fiber arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and she explores materiality in her sculptures and installations. She has a background in English literature and worked in the financial world, and brings both of these experiences to her art. She'll have a show later this year at Devening Projects.
