The Point's Chris Marty Competes At Tales Of The Cocktail

If you went to the city's top cocktail bars last weekend, chances are you didn't spot your favorite bartender there. That's because many of them were in New Orleans for Tales of the Cocktail, an annual cocktail convention that brings bartenders, writers, and cocktail aficionados together for five days of imbibing. I attended this year, and spotted a number of Chicagoans there, including Chris Marty from The Point.

Marty participated in Friday's Marie Brizard USA Cocktail Challenge, which challenged six bartenders from across the country to make a cocktail with a Marie Brizard liqueur. Robert Montero, formerly of Sra. Martinez in Miami, was the winner—he took home $1,000 and will represent the U.S. in the international challenge in France.

Here's Marty's recipe for Me No Laugh, his entry in the contest.

Me No Laugh

Ingredients:
3/4 oz. Marie Brizard Orange
1 1/2 oz. Arran 10-year Single Malt Scotch
3/4 oz. Gabriel Boudier Marasquino
1/4 oz. Cruzan Black Strap Rum
1 dash Jerry Thomas' Own Decanter Bitters

Directions:
1. Add ingredients and ice to mixing glass and stir together.
2. Strain into a chilled coupe.
3. Garnish with one slice of three month-aged Manchego cheese, rind-on, and one slice of extra-aged gouda cheese, rind-on. Notch cheese slices opposite rind.
