Pot Ticketing Law Goes Into Effect Today

We should have added “don’t get caught holding; it will cost you” to our Lollapalooza survival guide. The city's new pot ticketing ordinance takes effect this weekend.

Starting Saturday anyone police catch holding 15 grams or less of marijuana will be fined $250, under the terms of the ordinance a conflicted City Council passed by a 43-3 vote in June. The ordinance will not apply to people within the festival grounds, since that’s Park District property.

But don’t think for a moment you’re Teflon if you’re heading to Lolla. Anyone caught holding inside the festival will be arrested, as a change was made to the ordinance prior to the vote that made it an arrestable offense to be in possession of weed on Park District property and school grounds.
