File this under strange awards: Butcher & the Burger, the Lincoln Park butcher shop/burger joint with the oddly adaptive name has won an award from Men's Health magazine as America's Manliest Burger Spot. We're not quite sure what that means, but we'll take national recognition where we can get it.

Men's Health ran nine different categories of awards, including Manliest BBQ, Pizza, Steakhouse, Seafood Shack, Brewpup, Taco Stand, Adventurous Eating, Sandwich Shop and Burger. Apparently men only eat certain foods. (We don't see much in the way of pasta, salads, ice cream or dessert on the list.) Chicago actually won two awards, including Butcher & the Burger's and an award for Manliest Pizza for Burt's Place. This award is actually only the precursor; soon they will decide America's Manliest Restaurant.

Time magazine's blog put it best.

Follow their advice, and your next meal will have you feeling manly, albeit a little closer to a heart attack. Yes, it is a bit ironic: on a list compiled by a magazine with the word “health” in its name, “manliness” goes hand in hand with a high calorie count.

At least they picked a good burger place. We've enjoyed burgers and classes at Butcher & the Burger before, they are committed to sustainable, local meat (raised in Barrington Hills) and dry-age their steaks in-house. If you're interested in learning more about manliness and food, there will be a Travel Channel special coming later this year.
