This is not a stunt, people. Former Chicago Bear great Steve "Mongo" McMichael announced Thursday he intends to run for mayor of Romeoville. There are likely to be plenty of people in the suburb who still view the 1985 Super Bowl XX Champion Bears with such reverence that they would actually vote for McMichael.

Maybe some of those voters are customers at his Romeoville sports bar and restaurant, "Mongo McMichael's." These customers have complained to McMichael about issues facing the village, which helped steel the former defensive tackle's resolve. McMichael told the Tribune of his intentions.

"I am not a politician. I am someone who will not delegate over the people. I will listen to them and act on what they want to see in the community."

McMichael also discussed his intentions to WMVP-AM radio hosts Tom Waddle and Marc Silverman. McMichael told Waddle and Silvy, "and by God, when I came to be a man, I put away childish things, I'm going to do it."

In an attempt to burnish his nascent campaign, McMichael insisted that his wild "Mongo" reputation was "just a character." We're not sure. After all, this is a mountain of a man with weaknesses for toy dogs and blondes with stripper names. Come to think of it, we would vote for McMichael if we lived in Romeoville based on that. Oh, and this.

And this.
