The Man With The Malort Tattoo

By Anthony Todd in Food on Aug 21, 2012 3:20PM

We're kind of suckers for Malort. It's the hometown underdog, the craft spirit before there were craft spirits. Combine that with our love of chefly tattoos, and you have a winner. So, when Brad Bolt, managing partner at Bar Deville, let slip that he had a Malort tattoo, we did a little happy dance.

Even better, Bolt has other booze tattoos. And they are much classier, if slightly less hometown—Green Chartreuse and Fernet Branca (which just makes us think of The Dark Knight Rises). Between the three, you've got a very strange greenish bitter cocktail. We asked Bolt why he got a Malort tattoo.

"My first tattoo was the Chicago flag and I really didn't give much thought to ever getting more," he explained. "Fast forward 8 years and now my arms are covered almost completely. I wasn't happy with that first tattoo and I covered it up but wanted a different version of the flag. I decided on the crest and flag from Malort. I personally love the stuff and this version of the flag is perfectly in line with my profession."

Cheers to that. And a reminder: anyone with a great food (or booze) tattoo who wants to share, send it our way.
