Know a kid who’s got what it takes to dance with the Russians? This Wednesday, Aug. 29, The Moscow Ballet is holding open auditions for local youngsters ages 7 to 17 for their Chicago production of The Great Russian Nutcracker. If your little one has at least two years of ballet training and is no more than five feet tall, they could dance along side Moscow’s 40 Vaganova-trained dancers as they celebrate their 20th year on the road. Aspiring ballerinas and ballerinos are both invited to audition.

The big show will be on Dec. 2 at the Akoo Theatre (formerly the Rosemont Theatre), but this week’s auditions will take place at the Southport Performing Arts Conservatory (SPACE) Peterson location beginning at 4 p.m. with the youngest Level One dancers. Of course dancers chosen will also have to be available for rehearsals in advance of the performance, which will also be at SPACE. There’s a $5 audition fee and some paperwork to fill out in advance, so be sure to check out all the fine print at SPACE’s website.

Tickets for the final performance are already on sale starting at $28.

Southport Performing Arts Conservatory is located at 3433-37 W. Peterson Ave.
