Buffalo Wild Wings Ad Pokes Fun At Homebrewers

Yesterday we wondered if craft beer was a bubble about to burst. Maybe, maybe not, but this ad from Buffalo Wild Wings might show there’s the beginning of a backlash. While it’s unlikely that BW3 is losing any prime customer base by alienating homebrewers, who also tend to be craft beer enthusiasts, but this ad certainly sends an underlying anti-craft beer message to us.

We’re not sure what offends us most about this ad, BW3’s ardent distaste for homebrewers, or the anti-cat message.

As far as the cats are concerned, many beer-loving, football watching women we know - author included - would rather date a man who spends his Sundays with a cat and a carboy over one who spends his ideal Sunday drinking lite beer and passing buffalo sauce scented gasses.

Clearly, the ad is supposed to be humorous, but while macro brew sales are losing ground to the craft brewers of the country, it seems like poor form on BW3 to alienate an industry that could bring them future revenue. We're not sure about the shareholders of BW3, but we don't know any businesses who would find lower revenue very funny.
